Arise Christian Center
is dedicated to ministering to the whole person; mind, body and spirit.
Our health ministry offers
Biblically based classes in nutrition, exercise and alternative medicine.
We host guest speakers and seminars on health related topics such as
heart disease and herbal remedies.
Arise Community Health Care makes an impact on the health of the uninsured
members of our local community by providing disease prevention education
and health screenings for early diagnosis. Our program also provides
opportunities for community members to make the three lifestyle adjustments
that can reduce and help control high blood pressure and its related diseases;
losing weight, increasing physical activity, and changing to a nutritionally
sound diet.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
|
|
|
|
|
|
Arise Community Health Center (ACHC) is a permanent Health Promotional facility
that has been developed to administer an in-house health component.
We in collaboration with other community based programs, educational institutions
and health care facilities provide free health care screenings, and
if necessary make the appropriate referral for follow-up health care. Our
agency, ACHC, monitors the health and provides services and disease
prevention programs to ACC members and residents in our service area of South
West Los Angeles and our neighboring communities of Culver City and Inglewood.
Our goal is to increase awareness and the knowledge-base of our members and
community by focusing on preventive health measures and giving access to
free quality health-care services in a supportive environment. We partner
with educational institutions such as T.H.E. Clinic, Positive Imagery Foundation,
USC, West Los Angeles College, King/Drew Medical Center, UCLA Cancer Center,
and the Los Angeles Veterans Resource Center to provide health education/screening
events. In addition, we collaborate with organizations such as
the American Heart Association, The American Diabetes Association, The American
Cancer Society and government agencies such as the Los Angeles Department
of Public Health to maximize and provide optimal services delivery, making
the most of our educational programs and resources to the uninsured and underinsured
members of our community.
ACHC has 700 square feet of space, which includes two classrooms and one
audiovisual meeting room. One of the classrooms will be transformed
to accommodate our health component, and health fitness-gym. The other
classroom will house our health educational resource room with easy access
to a library and director’s office. The reception office and restrooms
are shared with Arise Christian Center. In addition, the church sanctuary
can is transformed into a large forum, to host a greater capacity of participants
and fitness classes. The rear parking lot will be tented for health fairs
and community outreach programs. The suite of offices is wheelchair
accessible. Arise Christian Center has two 20-passenger buses that
are available to pick up seniors, take youth on field trips and transport
volunteers for outreach programs.
The ACHC 15-member steering committee is comprised of health-care professionals
and community volunteers including, Dr. Osbourne Blake, internist, Dr. Ronald
Beavers, psychologist, specializing in behavior modification and health promotions,
Donna Cashie, R.N., Marlene Boykins, mammogram technician, Dr. Merci Rosenweig,
dentist, in addition to a dietitian, two fitness instructors, and a nutritional
counselor. The program director is Angela de Joseph. The staff includes
one part-time health educator and a team of dedicated community volunteers.
